Math Expressions
Boulder Valley School District adopted Math Expressions as the curriculum for all elementary schools to use. Below you will find some information and examples of some activities, concepts and lessons your children will encounter during Kindergarten.

Numeracy
Thinking about numbers in frames of 5 and 10 is a helpful way for students to learn number facts. Some of the following links provide your children with practice in thinking in frames of 5 and 10.

Patterns: In Kindergarten, we focus on learning how to identify, create and label patterns. Students learn patterns to 4 places. (ABCD patterns).

Colors
Most children should come into Kindergarten already knowing his or her colors. Please practice color recognition/names with your child at home. In the classroom, we will work with children on their colors focusing on: reading and writing color words, mixing colors/creating colors, and other various activities that include using colors as a way to categorize materials by attributes.
Shapes: Kindergartners are expected to identify, name and draw the following shapes: circle, oval, square, rectangle, triangle. The are also expected to be able to identify a rhombus, hexagon and trapezoid.
