Mrs. Beth Drase
[rhymes with "race"] [email protected] Class Facebook: “MrsBeth Drase” (no space between Mrs and Beth) Mrs. Drase grew up attending BVSD schools and is very happy to be teaching in the district that gave her her start. She is passionate about creating a strong foundation for our youngest learners to build upon and doing so in an environment that embraces diversity and focuses on developing the whole child. Teaching Kindergarten is very rewarding and FUN! She loves the transformation that takes place in kids during their first year of school. It is always amazing to see how much kids grow. The 2016/17 school year will be her eleventh year teaching Kindergarten at Birch. Outside of school she enjoys spending time with friends and family. Mrs. Drase recently got married (June 2015) and bought her first home with her husband, Matt. She is looking forward to a shorter commute this year (she lived in Ft. Collins for the past 3 years) and to getting settled into her new home. Mrs. Drase enjoys being creative- with an art teacher for a mother, she has always been surrounded and motivated by the arts. She enjoys photography, drawing and creating things. Matt and Mrs. Drase also LOVE Legos and are building a Lego city in their basement...think the end of the Lego Movie! :) |

Education
Mrs. Drase went to Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan for her undergrad. (Go Broncos!) She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.A in Elementary Education and has minors in Math and Science, Integrated Creative Arts, and Early Childhood Education (for which she also holds an endorsement). Mrs. Drase completed her Masters in Educational Equity and Cultural Diversity with an emphasis in Linguistically Diverse Education at University of Colorado at Boulder in December 2012. She says it was a great learning experience and has helped make her an even stronger teacher for all students, especially students who are learning English as a second (or third!) language. Through Boulder Valley School District Mrs. Drase has also participated in numerous trainings, courses, cohorts and professional development opportunities in literacy, math, diversity/equity, and curriculum and assessment development. She is currently participating in a Full-Day Kindergarten Cadre that is working on creating developmentally appropriate Full-Day Kindergarten programs across BVSD. Part of this work includes Mrs. Drase's classroom acting as a sort of "learning lab" for other Kindergarten teachers across the district to come observe. The kids will become familiar with lots of visitors and get to show off their wonderful work!
